Home remedies to treat arthritis and hand stiffness

Drink plenty of water

This is the one of the most effective ways to treat swelling. Drink 10 – 12 glasses of water that works wonders which is caused by water retention. It helps to store in dehydration. Storage of water in the body is what it leads to swelling of some body part like hands and feet.

Cold and hot compresses

Apply cold or heat compression to bring down the inflammation. If the swelling is due to an allergic reaction, then apply ice packs on the affected area. It will cool down the skin and immediately reduce the swelling. If the swelling is due to sports injury, then only hot compress can soothe the area. You can heat water and pour it in a glass bottle. Wrap the glass bottle in a towel and apply it over the swelling. It reduces the swelling, but also provide relief from pain.

Exercising to get rid of hand pain

Exercising helps to reduce swelling in hands and legs. Exercise us not asking you to hit the gym. Exercise like walking will provide relief from swelling. There are some legs and feet specific exercises to bring down the inflammation.

Salt solution for arthritis

Swelling in the feet and the hands can be reduced by dipping them in salt solution. Mix two teaspoons salt in a liter of warm water. Soak your hands or feet in the salt solution for 10 – 15 minutes. Salt solution is very effective in draining the extra flow of liquids to hands and feet.

Potato juice to relive from swelling

The body goes through a lot of hormonal changes that may result in swelling of the hands and feet. Many of the people experience during the final stages of pregnancy. This swelling can be painful and irritating. It can get rid of swelling caused during pregnancy that uses potato juice. Peel a medium sized potato and cut it into thin slices. Wrap the potato slices around your hands and feet using medical gauze. Leave it for about 30 minutes. Repeat it when you require.

Reduce salt intake

Swelling and bloating, high amount of sodium in the diet. Reduce your intake of salt by cutting down on the salt you put in your food. Cut down on the amount of processed foods you eat including cheese. These foods are highly toxic in nature that is because of the high amounts of sodium present in them.

Mustard oil to reduce swelling

Swelling results in poor blood circulation to certain parts of the body like hands and feet. Treat this problem by rubbing mustard oil on the swollen areas. Take some warm mustard oil and gently massage the swollen hands or legs with the oil for about 5 – 7 minutes. It helps to restore the flow of blood to the affected parts and reduce swelling.

How to get rid of hand arthritis with ice pack 

Cold therapy is used while suffering from hand arthritis. Use ice packs, a plastic bag filled with crushed ice or a bag of frozen vegetables. Ice packs on the affected hands will lessen irritation and reduce soreness. Put the ice pack on the affected area for a few minutes and repeat it. Continue this for about 20 minutes. Apply cold compress to 1 – 2 joints at a time. It is better to use a thin towel between the ice pack and the skin to prevent frostbite.

Ginger to get hand relief

Ginger contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce arthritis pain and inflammation. It can add an herb in your foods and also drink ginger tea to derive its benefits. Take a small piece of ginger and boil it in one cup of water for about 10 minutes. Then strain the solution and drink the tea for three times a day to get relief.

Turmeric for hand pain

Turmeric has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Take one teaspoon of turmeric in a glass of hot milk with a little honey. Drink it once daily. You can also use it by heating a quart of water. Add one tablespoon of turmeric powder and boil the solution for about 10 minutes. Let it cool and drink it daily to get relief from hand pain.

Epsom salt soaks for arthritis in hands

Epsom salt is rich in magnesium and helps to relieve pain. The magnesium present in Epsom salt relaxes your body muscles and ends with in turn to relieve stiffness and pain. A regular diet of high magnesium leads to give a better bone density that gives stronger bones. This helps to get relief from arthritis. A high amount of magnesium is present in dark leafy greens, nuts, legumes, beans etc. This helps to relieve from pain. Take half cup of Epsom salt and 1 bowl of warm water. Add this Epsom salt in a bowl of warm water. Mix them well and soak your hands in it for a about 15 minutes. This helps to get submerged in the water.

Apple cider vinegar to relieve from arthritis pain

The apple cider vinegar has alkaline and anti inflammatory properties. This helps to reduce pain and stiffness in the hands of arthritis. Take 1 glass of warm water and add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into it. Add 1 – 2 teaspoons of honey into it. Mix them well and drink this for better results.

Alternatively, take ¼ – ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar. Mix apple cider vinegar into warm water. Add cayenne pepper into it. Mix them well and soak your hands in it for about 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse your hands well and repeat the process daily.

Castor oil for hand pain relieving

The castor oil has a rich component of Rcnoleic acid. This is rich in analgesic and anti inflammatory properties. Simply, hears two tablespoons of castor oil and adds it into your daily breakfast juice. This gives instant pain relief from arthritis pain in the hands. Massage your hands with castor oil for instant relief from swollen fingers. Take some castor oil and warm it up. Gently massage your hands to relieve from finger joints with castor oil. Repeat the process twice a day.
