How to cook palada ada pradhaman for onam festival

Palada ada pradhanam is a traditional sweet of kerala. It is popular sweet cooked during the time of onam festival. The main ingredient of ada pradhanam sweet is rice ada. Rice ada is served as breakfast in kerala. Let us see how to cook palada ada pradhanam at home.


  • Rice ada/rice flakes- 1 cup
  • Coconut milk- 1 ½ cup
  • Jaggery-  1 ¼ cup
  • Grated coconut- ¼ cup
  • Ghee- ½ cup
  • Cardomom powder- ¼ spoon
  • Cashew nuts- 3 spoons
  • Raisins- 4 spoons
  • Water-2 glasses


Step 1: Take a bowl and boil water for 5 min at low temperature.

Step 2: Soak rice ada/rice flakes for 20 min

Step 3: Drain the water and clean the rice ada with cool water.

Step 4: Take another bowl and dissolve jaggery in 1 glass of water.

Step 5: Take a long bottomed vessel, heat ghee, fry the rice ada in medium flame for 3 min.

Step 6: Add dissolved jaggery and to rice ada. Cook it till it turns into thick.

Step 7: Add coconut milk and some water to it and cook for 10min in low flame.

Step 8: After sometime the sweet gets thicken.

Step 9: Fry the cashew nut, raisins,grated coconut in ghee for 3 min

Step 10: Add fried cashew nuts and raisins and grated coconut to sweet.

Step 11: At last, add remaining ghee to the sweet and serve it in bowl.
