How to cook drumstick tomato masala curry

Drumstick is called as the “power house of minerals”. Drumstick fruits, barks, leaves and seeds used as the medical purpose and also in various dishes. It majorly grows in the India. Drum stick juice gives strengthening to the bones. Drumstick leaves works as the tonic to the infants and children. Drumstick consists of lot of vitamins. So let’s see how to cook the drumstick tomato masala curry.

Method of preparation


  • Onions = 2
  • Drumsticks = 3
  • Tamarind – 1 piece
  • Tomatoes = 2
  • Coriander seeds  powder = 1tbsp
  • Grated coconut = 3tbsp
  • Turmeric powder = 1/2tbsp
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Curry leaves
  • Minced garlic = 1
  • Mustard seeds = ½ tbsp
  • Garam masala powder = 1/2tbsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves


Step 1: Take a bowl of water and soak the tamarind for 10 minutes to extract the juice.

Step 2: Wash the drumsticks and cut them into pieces.

Step 3: Slice the onions and chop the tomatoes. Keep them aside.

Step 4: Heat oil in a pan. After the oil gets hot add mustard seeds, garlic and curry leaves.

Step 5: Saute them until garlic becomes golden brown.

Step 6: Add the drumsticks to it. Allow it to sauté for 4 minutes.

Step 7: Add onions to the drumsticks and fey them.

Step 8: Now add the red chilli, coriander, turmeric, salt and tomatoes.

Step 9: Mix them all and let it cook till the tomatoes gets smashed.

Step 10: Add the tamarind juice and 2 cups of water.

Step 11: Cook it in a small flame for 10mins (till the drumstick cooks).

Step 12: Now add the dry coconut powder and stir nicely. Sprinkle little garam masala powder and let it cook for 5 mins.

Step 13: Take off it from flame by adding the coriander leaves and serve it to hot rice.
