Home remedies for jaundice

Jaundice is a common problem that is very much visible in children. It also affects adults too. It is caused due to increased level of yellowish bile pigment which is called as bilirubin in blood. It is a by-product of the natural process taking place in body which include  breaking down and removal of old red blood cells.

Bilirubin is a by-product of the body’s natural process of breaking down and removing old and damaged red blood cells. It is removed through liver just like other products. There are many types of jaundice a person may face like infection, due to certain medication there may get gallstones, hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, pancreatic cancer, etc. It mainly affects three main organ which is liver, pancreas and most important gall-bladder. The symptoms may include yellowing of skin, eyes, tongue and even urine, headache, fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, skin itching and even pale-colored stools.

There are many home remedies that will help you in speeding up the recovery process of jaundice.

Lemons

Lemon can help in treatment of jaundice as it has healing property. Being diuretic in nature it encourages the urine production so that harmful waste like bilirubin may eliminated from body. They stimulate liver bile production and even mineral absorption.

Take lemon juice dilute it by adding water to it almost one glass and then drink it twice to thrice a day for almost a week or two.

Sugarcane

Another best remedy that is best in giving relief from jaundice is sugarcane. There is a sudden drop of glucose observed at the time of jaundice. The best sugar ingredient is sugarcane that help in boosting energy and also help in recovery process. Sugarcane being completely alkaline in nature help in maintenance of low acid level in body and keep it hydrated.

Sugarcane juice is best, prepare juice and squeeze lemon in it. Mix well and the drink this twice to thrice a day for almost two to three weeks. This will help in easy passage of urine and even nourish body.

Barley

Another most effective remedy against jaundice is barley. It acts as diuretic as well helps in removal of toxins such as bilirubin from the body. This is best recommended remedy since ancient times.

Take one cup of barley and add it to 2 to 3 litre of water. Simmer it for few hours, strain and then let it cool. Add lemon juice, salt and sugar as per taste if required. Try drinking mixture of four to five glasses of barley water till the symptoms of jaundice vanish.

Turmeric

Turmeric is rich in curcumin that help in the process of detoxification of liver. It helps in prevention of alcohol and even other harmful toxins that may damage liver. It also has medicinal as well as healing properties that may ensure speedy recovery.

Take one quarter of turmeric powder in a glass of lukewarm water. Drink this mixture for twice to thrice a day for few weeks till the symptoms of the jaundice disappears.

Ginger

Ginger acts as natural detoxifying agent as well as it also protect the liver from various attacks and may ensure normal and smooth functioning of liver.

Take out the juice of ginger. Add half teaspoon lemon juice or mint juice to it. Then add honey as per taste.

Extract the juice from a small piece of ginger. Try this mixture thrice a day for two weeks for positive results.

Radishes

Radish are very good for liver and is considered as best remedy for jaundice. It is very powerful detoxifier that will help in purifying blood and also help in elimination of harmful toxins as well as waste which also include bilirubin from body. Radish as well as radish leaves are used for treating jaundice.

Extract juice from radish leaves. Drink one glass of radish leaf juice twice a day for almost 10 days that will ensure faster recovery. You can even add crushed basil leaves.

Tomato

The red color of tomato is due to a pigment it contains lycopene. This substance lends color, it also has an important action of reducing tissue damage in the liver. Drinking a glass of fresh tomato juice on an empty stomach every morning and is recommended for people with jaundice.

Papaya leaves

Papaya is rich in Vitamin A. Add one tablespoon of honey to one teaspoon of papaya leaves paste. Eat this paste regularly for about 1 – 2 weeks. This is very effective and homemade cure for jaundice.

Basil leaves

Take about 10 – 15 basil leaves and make a paste of it. Add half a glass of freshly prepared radish juice to it. Drink this daily for about 2 – 3 weeks for better results.

Gooseberry

Gooseberry is rich in Vitamin C and is a very useful in alleviating the symptoms of jaundice.

Almonds

Take about 8 kernels of almonds, two dates and five cardamoms and soak them in water. Leave it overnight and remove the skin of almonds in the morning. Make them a paste of it. Add some sugar and butter. Take this mixture several times a day.

Aloe vera leaves

Take the pulp of the leaves of aloe vera and mix it with black salt and ginger. Take this every morning for about ten days to get rid of aloe vera juice.

Chamomile

Tea made of chamomile is very effective cure for jaundice and should be at least once a day for several weeks. It can be continued after cure of jaundice as a preventive measure.

Buttermilk

Take buttermilk and add roasted alum and add some black pepper and mix them well. Drink at least thrice a day for better results.

Symptoms during menstruation

Menstruation is a sign of a bleeding disorder or hormonal problem and can result in anemia and weakness. It is very important to maintain hygiene and avoid eating pickles, the heat causing foods. At that time the body sheds the uterine lining along with blood. Women bear different kinds of problems during and before menstruation. The symptoms are mood swings, back pain, and abdominal cramps.

Symptoms during and before menstruation

Painful breasts

Many women face the problem of painful breasts during menstruation. There may be heaviness and swelling in the breasts. This occurs due to hormonal changes and progesterone secretion during the menstruation.

Apply a cold compress on the breasts to reduce swelling and pain. Or massaging the breasts gently with warm olive or coconut oil will help to reduce the pain.

Nausea and vomiting

Nausea is not a serious issue, but it can be draining and make you weak and tired. They occur due to the production of prostaglandins during the menstrual cycle. It causes the walls of the uterus to contract, leading to nausea and cramps.

Take a small piece of fresh lemon and inhale the smell. Or drink peppermint or ginger tea will help to get out of vomiting sensation.

Acne and pimples on the skin

Skin breakouts with pimples, zits and acne that are common during menstruation. This is due to increase in the sex hormones and androgen in the body. It makes the skin’s oil glands overactive, that is causing the pores to become clogged.

Apply white toothpaste on the affected area and leave it till dry. Then rinse it off with warm water. Or apply a cold compress on the affected area will also help to reduce pain and inflammation.

Loose bowel movements

It is natural and not harmful at all. Loose bowel movements happen during the hormonal changes. Once menstruation starts, the body releases prostaglandins. If they are higher than they cause more contractions and lead to diarrhea like symptoms.

Eat yogurt and bananas to reduce the intensity to loose bowel movements. Or eat plain, boiled potatoes with soft cooked rice also help to feel comfortable for your stomach.

Swelling and puffiness in the body

The hormonal imbalance and increase in estrogen can cause excessive accumulation of fluid in the body tissues. It leads to water retention. It creates swelling and puffiness in different body parts. Feet, legs, stomach and breasts are the body parts where you can find swelling.

Drink dandelion or parsley tea a few times daily during your menstrual cycle. Or have a bath with Epsom salt for 15 – 20 minutes a day.

Rise in temperature

The body becomes warmer due to hormonal fluctuations during different phases. The basal body temperature also increases right after ovulation and continues to remain high until a few days before the next period.

Drink a few cups of basil or ginger tea to get relief from muscle aches, body pain, and fever. Or take a sponge bath or a regular bath in lukewarm water also help to relax your body and reduces body temperature.

Bloated stomach

Bloating is a common occurrence. 8 out of 10 women suffer from bloated stomach. The major fluctuation of hormones, namely estrogen and progesterone lead to fluid retention, swelling and a feeling of bloating near the abdominal area. It is uncomfortable and annoying symptom.

Drink more water to reduce bloating. You can also drink a few cups of an herbal tea like chamomile, ginger, fennel or green tea to prevent bloating. It reduces your intake of salt, starch, sugar and refined carbohydrates.

Headache

There will be a close relation between headaches and hormonal changes in the body. Estrogen and progesterone may affect headache related chemicals in the brain that causes headaches. Migraines report headaches before or during their periods.

Apply a cold compress on your forehead to get relief from headache. Or apply the mint leaves juice on your forehead and temples.

Blood clots

A small clump of blood in the menstrual flow occurs in many women. They usually are normal, harmless. The clots may be bright red, dark red, brown, or even black. They occur due to the normal shedding of the uterine lining.

Keep a warm compress on your lower abdomen for about 10 – 15 minutes for a few times a day. It will improve blood flow and prevent clots. If the clots are bigger and higher in quantity, consult your gynecologist.

Brown blood discharge

The brown blood discharge is due to oxidization that occurs when the blood stays in the ovaries for a longer time and the color changes to brown.
