Natural hair care for dry scalp dandruff

Dandruff is actually a fungal condition and rather than small, white flakes, yellowish clumps of tissue form on the scalp. Flakes are the result of an inflamed scalp, and from a fungus called Malassezia Ovalis. Dandruff occurs when the flakes are larger and are accompanied by itching and inflammation.

Dry scalp is nothing but dry skin on your head. Your scalp can be dry just like the rest of your skin. Your scalp may be washed only once a day. This leads that your scalp has less exposure to drying surfactants.

Causes of dandruff

  • Scalp produces sebum on a regular basis to that of oily scalp.
  • Your scalp must be colonized by a certain strain of yeast, i.e., Malassezia globosa. Thus the yeast to eat your scalp oil and “poop” out a potentially irritating compound called oleic acid.
  • Sensitivity to oleic acid.

Few dry scalp and dandruff remedies

Medicated or antibacterial shampoos

Purchase a shampoo of medicated/antibacterial/antifungal that helps with scaling. This shampoo stops your immune system from overreacting. It doesn’t cause itch to your scalp. You need to select the shampoo that contains ginger, tea tree, selenium and zinc. It is good if you add them in your diet.

Cinnamon for itchy scalp

Cinnamon is a very good treatment for dandruff. It helps to grow your hair and makes your hair smooth and silky. Soak some cinnamon seeds in curd overnight and grind them. It becomes as a thick paste, then apply this paste over your scalp and hair. Leave it for about 30 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water.

Beetroot for beautiful hair

Beetroot is good for skin and improves your red blood cells. Take a beet-root and boil it in water. Rinse your hair in the water left over from boiling beets. It can reportedly give you beautiful hair. If you wish to have raw beet-root it very good for health or else you can try them with some fresh pepper, and sea salt.

Green tea rinses for hair

Green tea contains a polyphenol called EGCG which is one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants. Apply green tea solution to your scalp. After some time, rinse off with water. This is the natural home remedy for dandruff.

Jojoba oil massage for flaky scalp

Jojoba oil helps to cure dandruff and itchy, flaky scalp without drying your hair. It acts as a conventional dandruff shampoo. Take few drops of pretty smelling essential oil and apply it on your scalp and hair. Leave it for one hour and rinse off with lukewarm water and then shampoo your hair.

Coconut oil to prevent dandruff

Coconut oil helps to prevent dandruff flakes. Take the required quantity of coconut oil based upon your hair. Heat the coconut oil and wait until it becomes warm. Then apply it on your scalp and hair. Massage gently and leave it for about 3 hours or it is better to apply it previous night before you are going to take head bath. Repeat it 2-3 times a week.

Honey to treat dandruff

Honey is a natural antibacterial and antifungal property and is an antioxidant. Take 9 teaspoons of raw honey with one teaspoon of water. Apply this on your scalp and hair. Leave it for 3 hours and then rinse off with lukewarm water. It helps to stop itching, scaling, skin lesions and hair loss.

Brown sugar and olive oil to prevent dry scalp

Brown sugar and olive oil help to prevent dry, flaky scalp. It is a great sugar scrub for your body also. Smash one piece of brown sugar crystal and add the necessary amount of olive oil into it. Apply this on your scalp and leave it for some time. Then shampoo your hair.

Avocado and honey for dandruff treatment

Avocado and honey helps to treat dandruff. Smash one avocado in a bowl and add 1 tablespoon of honey into it. Mix them well and add a few drops of water to become into a thick paste. Apply this paste on your scalp and leave it for some time that until it becomes dry. Then rinse off with normal water.

Egg yolk and olive oil for dandruff

This is an effective dandruff treatment. Take one egg yolk and mix it with olive oil in a bowl. Then rub your scalp with this solution. Leave it for some time and wash off with shampoo. It helps to get rid of dandruff.

Honey and jojoba oil to treat dry scalp

Jojoba oil is balancing oil that works great for treating dry as well as oily scalp problems. Mix equal amount of jojoba oil and honey. Apply this mixture to scalp and hair. Leave it for at least 3 hours. Then shampoo and condition as you would normally.

Coconut dandruff mask

Coconut dandruff oil works great for dandruff and dry skin. Mix 4 tablespoon of coconut oil with 2 drops of tea tree oil and 3 drops of rosemary essential oil. Mix them well and apply them on your scalp to prevent dandruff. Massage into scalp for some time and leave it for 20 minutes. Then wash off with mild shampoo.

Tea tree oil for dry and dandruff scalp

Tea tree oil contains anti-fungal properties which can kill the bacteria that increase the production of skin cells. This leads to white flakes. Add tea tree oil to your scalp and conditioner that can soothe your scalp. Take 6 drops of tea tree oil and add it into your shampoo or conditioner. This helps to rinse your scalp and hair. Repeat the process and use this tea tree oil that gives more effective results.

Alternatively, take 5 – 10 drops of tea tree oil and mix them with water. Use this solution to wash your hair after shampooing. Repeat the process regularly.

Apple cider vinegar to control dandruff

Apple cider vinegar helps to kill the fungus that causes the dry scalp. This also can reduce the inflammation. Take half a cup of water and add half a cup of apple cider vinegar into it. Mix them well. Massage your scalp with this solution and leave it for about 10 minutes. Wash it off with shampoo and you will find better results depending upon regular usage.

Another method, Take 3 cups of water and a handful of rosemary in a bowl. Stir them well and cover it. Let them boil and simmer for 45 minutes. Switch off the flame and strain the solution. Allow it to cool down for some time. Add ½ cup of apple cider vinegar and add 10 drops of each essential oils, rosemary and peppermint oil into it. Mix them well and fill the solution in a spray bottle. Spray the solution after washing your hair. Rinse them and you can see better results.

Lemon best natural treatment for dandruff

The lemon acts as antiseptic and moisturizer. This helps to remove excessive dead cells. Squeeze out fresh lemon juice and extract juice from it. Add honey into it and mix them well. Massage your scalp for a few minutes and then rinse it off with water and shampoo. Another way is to warm a cup of coconut oil and mix them with a few drops of lemon juice. Apply this oil to your scalp and leave it for an hour. Cover your hair with a warm towel for a while. Remove towel and wash your hair. You can use any essential oil with lemon.
