Ear infections are a common illness in children and adults. It is quite painful as the buildup of fluids keeps pressure on the eardrum. It can cause to build up of wax, upper respiratory infections, food allergies, environmental allergies, fetal alcohol syndrome, genetics, nutritional deficiencies, and internal injuries. There are some signs of suffering pain in the ear, tugging at the ear, difficulty, sleeping, headache, poor response to rounds, high fever, and fluid draining.

Salt helps to treat ear infection. Heat a cup of salt in a microwave or pan for about 3 – 5 minutes. Then take it out and put them in a thick cloth. Seal the cloth at the open end. Check out the heat that you can bear up. Then put hot cloth on the affected ear for about 5 – 10 minutes. Repeat it many times a day. Heat form the salt will help to draw out fluid from the ear and gives relief.


The holy basil treats minor earache, or infections. Crush 4 – 5 fresh holy basil leaves gently to extract the juice. Apply the basil juice around the infected ear. It gives relief from the pain and affected ear.

Olive oil

Olive oil catches ear infection that catches some fungal or bacterial growth. It leads to blockage in the Eustachian tubes. Warm some olive oil by pouring a few drops of the warm oil into the infected ear. It causes the wax soften and removes wax with cotton tipped swab.


Onion is a common ingredient used in cooking. Chop one small onion, put it in a bowl, and microwave it for 1 – 2 minutes. Allow it to cool. Strain out the onion juice. Then put 2 – 3 drops of juice in the infected ear and leave it for some time. Turn your head and drain out your ear.

Mango leaf juice

Mango leaf relieves the pain of ear infections. Crush or grind 2 – 3 soft mango leaves to extract the juice. Warm the juice and using a dropper keep 3 – 4 drops of juice into the infected ear. This gives relief from pain. Repeat it 2 -3 times a day.

Basil and coconut oil

Mix few drops of holy basil oil with equal amount of carrier oil like coconut oil. Soak a cotton ball in that mixture and gently wipe it in the ear. Do it around the outer edge and behind the ear. Repeat it twice a day.


Garlic has antimicrobial properties that are natural pain relieving qualities. Make garlic oil by cooking two garlic cloves in two tablespoons of sesame oil or mustard oil. Let it boil till it turns blackish, then strain the solution. It is bearably hot that it uses two to four drops of oil in the infected ear like ear drops. It helps to clear the wax from the ear.

Breast milk

Breast milk helps to speed up the healing process. It gives relief within one to two days. Using a dropper puts a few drops of breast milk into the affected ear. Repeat the process for few hours.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a good option. Mix one part of apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water or alcohol. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and that in your ear. Leave it for 5 minutes. Then remove the cotton ball and lay down in opposite side to drain the liquid from the ear.

Warm water bottle

By applying some heat to the infected ear can reduce the pain and also prevent micro-organism infestation. Place a warm water bottle against the ear. Do not apply heat the ear for long periods of time to get relief. Stay for five minutes and remove the heat.

Tea tree oil

The antibacterial properties present in tea tree oil can give instant relief. Mix three drops of tea tree oil, two tablespoons of olive oil, a teaspoon of colloidal silver, and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Warm the mixture and using a dropper fill your ear with the mixture. Leave it for 5 minutes. Then turn and lay out the mixture to drain out from your ear completely. Repeat it 2 – 3 times a day for 2 days.

Natural remedies to unblock and remove hardened ear wax from ears

Salt water: This is the simplest and best ear wax removal solution. It can soften the wax that is accumulated in the ear. Take one teaspoon of salt in one half cup of warm water until the salt dissolves completely. Soak a cotton ball in that solution and tilt the affected ear up towards the sky. Then squeeze the cotton ball to put a few drops of the saline water into the ear. Stay in the same position for 3 – 5 minutes. Tilt your head in the opposite direction to allow the saline water to drain out. After that, clean the outer part of your ear softened wax with a clean cloth.

Baby oil or glycerin: Put a few drops of baby oil or mineral oil with the help of a dropper to soften the earwax. After that, the oil settle in for some time by placing a cotton ball at the ear opening. It will prevent oil from oozing out before it is reaching the ear wax. Then take out the cotton ball after some time. Then drain out the extra oil from the ear. The oil helps to soften the impacted ear wax while facilitating the ear wax removal.

Hydrogen peroxide: This is very effective for excess ear wax accumulation. Hydrogen peroxide can remove the earwax and debris from the ear canal. Mix equal proportions of hydrogen peroxide and water. Fill the ear dropper with this solution and tilt your head sideways. Put a few drops of this solution into the ear. Leave it for some time and tilt your head towards the opposite side to drain out the solution. Remove the wax that using a clean cloth that will near the outer ear.

Vinegar and rubbing alcohol: It helps to dissolve the earwax. The alcohol will serve as a drying agent and evaporate at a low temperature and the vinegar that will fight bacteria and fungi. It will prevent any king of ear infection. Take equal proportions of white vinegar and rubbing alcohol in a bowl. Soak a cotton ball in that solution. Tilt the affected ear toward the sky and then squeeze two or three drops of this solution into the ear. Leave it for 5 minutes and tilt your head to the opposite direction. Remove the earwax from the outer ear with an ear bud.

Olive oil: Olive oil softens earwax that is easier to come out of the ear. Its antiseptic properties will reduce the risk of ear infection. Warm some olive oil and using a dropper, pour 3 – 4 drops of the warm oil into the affected ear. Leave it for 10 minutes, with this the ear wax becomes soft. Tilt your head and sideways. Remove the excess oil and wax with ear buds.

Warm water: Flushing warm water in your ear will get rid of excess of earwax. The gentle force of the water will dislodge the wax, making it easier to remove. Fill a rubber bulb syringe with slightly warm water that will tilt your head upright and pull the outer ear to straighten the ear canal. Using a syringe, put a small amount of water into the ear canal. Leave it for a minute and then drain it out by tilting your head to the opposite side. Clean away the water and earwax that has come out of the ear with a clean cloth.
