How to take care of your hair during winter – Winter hair care tips

Dry, cold, winter winds and blasts of indoor heat mean that you need specialized hair repair. Whereas chemically treated hair can suffer more, all you need is special care to avoid frizzy, flyaway tresses. Dry hair is vulnerable to breakage, frizz and tangling.

Hair looks dry and damaged when the cuticle on the outside of the shaft isn’t lying flat. It occurs mainly for curly or wavy hair. When the cuticle is raised, the hair looks dull and lifeless and the moisture keeps the cuticle lying flat on the shaft. You need to add moisture and help your hair hold on to it.

Apple cider vinegar and baking soda for hair care in winter

Shampoo your hair normally to remove natural oils. But, some of the people use baking soda and apple cider vinegar to wash their hair. Baking soda shampoo gives hair is fuller, healthier and stronger by using these two natural ingredients use apple cider vinegar several times a week to get rid of dandruff. Prepare a mixture with one tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with one cup of water. Mix them well and squeeze it in a bottle. Spray the mixture on your hair strands. Let it sit for a couple of minutes. Rinse your hair with vinegar mixture of one tablespoon of vinegar mixed in a cup of water. Repeat it regularly with the actual reacts producing more oil. Olive oil hair care tips in winter

Olive oil helps to repair damaged hair. Take two teaspoons of olive oil and massage them gently on your scalp. Apply olive oil on your hair and scalp. Gently massage that the oil penetrated deep into the roots.  Cover it with a shower cap or plastic wrap. Let it leave for about 30 minutes and then shampoo your hair as normal. A warm olive oil massage gives your hair shine and helps to remove dandruff and frizz, which controls hair breakage.

Hot oil massage for winter hair care

Massage your scalp with hot oil to preserve the health and moisture level of the hair. Massage improves the blood circulation in the scalp and makes the hair and its roots stronger. You may use jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil and massage the scalp with any one of these oils. Dip a towel in hot water and squeeze out water from it. Cover the towel over the head and leave it for about 5 minutes.

Use lukewarm water for your shower in winter

Hot water rids your hair of its essential oils. Use lukewarm water for your shower, especially when you wash your hair. It helps to keep the inherent moisture and shine of your intact while still giving you beautiful hair. You need to start off with hot water and reduce the temperature as you go along.

Dandruff free hair during winter

Dandruff is the most common problem seen in many women. Dandruff is seen to be increased in winter with a dry and itchy scalp. The little moisture in the air, thus start with the scalp getting flaky and extra dry. This leads to dandruff free scalp. Heat or warm up your hair oil. Mix it with some freshly squeezed lemon juice. You can even choose and apply this lemon juice on your scalp fir and rub it over your scalp. Gently massage with the warm hair oil. This helps to control dandruff and keeps your hair soft and silky.

Egg conditioner for hair care in winter

Beat one egg yolk until it is frothy and add one tablespoon of baby oil. Beat this mixture for a few minutes and then add it to one cup of water. Massage it through your hair and scalp after shampooing and then rinse well. At the time of conditioning your hair, you should extremely use extra moisturizing. Add some of your condition hair oils to condition your hair. Choose oil that are comfortable and are non-greasy. This helps to leave for about 15 – 20 minutes. Rinse them off with lukewarm water.

Avoid frequent shampooing to take care of hair

The frequency of shampooing should be reduced during winter. Many of you use shampoo your hair every day, but it is better to use shampoo hair only every other day. Use a shampoo that is meant especially for winter care. Use a conditioner every time you shampoo your hair because your hair strips it of oil and dirt. You should avoid shampoos that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Myreth Sulfate as they are very strong detergents. Choose for the shampoo that has soap nuts, natural surfactants that cleanse your hair without damaging it.

Egg shampoo for hair care in winter

This remedy suits for all hair types. Take one egg, one teaspoon of lemon juice, one teaspoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of Castile soap. Mix them all in a bowl. Combine this with ½ cup of water and a few drops of essential oil and shampoo as normal. You can also use ½ a cup of herbal tea that has cooled in place of the water for extra shine.

Avocado and coconut conditioner during winter 

Coconut oil is fully loaded with Vitamin E that helps to control dandruff. This is rich in lauric acid and coat the hair shaft with proteins that build, strengthen, repair, damage and improve your shine. Mash one avocado and add enough coconut milk into it. Prepare it into a thick paste. Let it leave for about 15 minutes and then wash off with water.

Conditioning your hair for winter hair care

Mayonnaise and avocado have natural oils that are great for dry hair and are loaded with vitamins B6 and E to increase strength and shine. You need to take ½ cup of mayonnaise and ½ of an avocado and blend them together until they form a light green paste. Apply this mixture on the hair and make sure to saturate the dry ends. You have to cover with a shower cap or plastic wrap. Shampoo your hair as normal.

Tips to take care of hair in winter

  • Wear a silk or satin scarf under wool hats to protect your hair strands from breakage. Mist your hair frequently with a moisturizer.
  • Wash your hair less often to let the oils from your scalp condition your hair naturally.
  • Avoid hats as they tend to cause frizz and flyways in all types of hair.
  • Make sure your hair is protected with a good thermal gel or spray.
  • Try to avoid using too may tools and products for winter weary hair. Keep your style simple.
