Hope you heard many recipes for making rasam. But here is the best recipe which you can make at home. Lot of rasam powders are released in the market by different brands. But I don’t want to use those powders because the taste will be quite different from what we buy and what we make at home. It is even healthy to prepare and used in our recipe. You will alone will observe and feel the aroma of the flavors.
Tomatoes are used in making of tasty rasam. As we know that tomatoes can help in growing perfect eyesight and prevents night blindness. It also having health benefits like reduces heart diseases; maintain blood health, good for digestion and fights cancer. Tomatoes are referred to as a functional food which contains the basic nutrition.
Tomato rasam is an appetizer dish prepared mostly in parts of southern India. Preparing of rasam is not so difficult and you can make this within 15 minutes. You can serve this for even babies and kids along with hot rice and ghee. Womens are preferred to have rasam with rice after delivery.
This tomato rasam is given to those who are suffering from fever or cold. Tomato rasam clears the indigestion problems. It can be even served to adults as soup by adding pepper to it. Let’s start looking to a procedure. Prepare at your home and enjoy the taste.
- Tomatoes – 5
- Tamarind – 10grms
- Toor dal / yellow lentils – 3tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 2tbsp
- Black pepper – 1tbsp
- Asafoetida – 1 pinch
- Garlic cloves – 10
- Poppy seeds – 1tbsp
- Red chili – 2
- Turmeric – ½ tbsp
- Water – 3glass
- Oil – 2tbsp
- Coriander leaves
- Curry leaves
How to make rasam powder
Step 1: Take a thick bottom pan on stove. Add toor dal into it.
Step 2: Fry it till it become light brown in color. Collect it into a bowl.
Step 3: Now in the same pan add black pepper and fry it for 2 minutes and collect into a bowl.
Step 4: Same way add cumin seeds into pan and let it fry for 1 minute. Turn off the flame.
Step 5: Collect all these spices into jar and grind it into a smooth powder.
Rasam powder is ready. If you prepared once it can be stored and use for 1 or 2 months. Store it in air tight container.
How to prepare Tomato rasam
Step 1: Take tomatoes and tamarind into a bowl. Start mashing the tomatoes along with tamarind with your fingers.
Step 2: By doing like this you can see tomato juice extracting from the tomatoes by adding water.
Step 3: Now throughout the pulp which you get in the juice. Keep this liquid a side.
Step 4: Put a vessel on stove add oil to it. Heat it in low flame.
Step 5: After oil getting hot put some red chili pieces into it.
Step 6: Add poppy seeds immediately. Beat the garlic cloves and throw them into the poppy seeds.
Step 7: Fry these spices till they become yellow in shade. You can feel the nice fragrance.
Step 8: Now pour the tomato juice into this mixture.
Step 9: Add turmeric and salt to this juice. Allow it to boil for 10 minutes.
Step 10: Now add prepared rasam powder to the boiling rasam.
Step 11: Boil it for 5 minutes and turn off the flame.
Garnish with coriander and curry leaves. Tasty rasam is ready. If you like to taste the rasam in sour then add lemon juice after preparation of rasam.
NOTE: Don’t add lemon juice while boiling the rasam.
